When not held virtually, all meetings feature open captioning and meeting rooms are equipped with audio loops, which transmit sound directly to hearing aids and cochlear implants equipped with telecoils. An ASL interpreter is available on request with five days notice.

Meetings also offer an opportunity to socialize and learn from others who live with hearing loss.

We’re back! Walk New York!—HLAA-NYC's Chapter Walk team—will participate in person at this year’s NYC Walk4Hearing, on Sunday, September 17th. Registration and festivities begin at 9:30. The Walk will take place at Riverside Park between 83rd and 94th Streets.

The Walk helps sustain our HLAA-NYC programs benefiting thousands of New Yorkers with hearing loss: advocacy for captioned performances, communication access in medical settings, school screenings for hearing loss, and more. Our HLAA-NYC chapter is noted for its excellent monthly Speakers Program for which we’ve had up to 125 attendees per program via virtual platform. We need each of you to support these endeavors by donating to our Walk New York! team.

Our walkers include children and adults with hearing loss, their families, friends, teachers for children with hearing loss, college and university students, hearing health practitioners, and hearing health advocates. Let them know they have your support by donating.

Help support HLAA-NYC by joining our chapter team, "Walk New York!" AT THIS LINK.

SCHOLARSHIPS

2024 ANNUAL ALBERT B. CHEN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD FOR A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR WITH HEARING LOSS

The Hearing Loss Association of America’s New York City Chapter is pleased to announce the fourth annual Albert B. Chen Scholarship, made possible by funds donated by Albert B. Chen. Mr. Chen, who has a profound hearing loss, hopes to inspire younger generations to give back to the hearing loss community at some point in the future. This $5,000 scholarship for a high school senior with hearing loss is to be used toward the pursuit of a college degree.

Applicants must be New York City residents, have applied to a college, be between the ages of 17 and 20, wear a hearing aid or cochlear implant, and have a minimum academic average of 80 or a grade point average of 3.0 or better. The scholarship is a one-time award.  Financial need is not a consideration. The award will be presented at HLAA-NYC's June 18, 2024 chapter meeting.
